Arguably one of the most important steps in the laundry renovation process, measuring your laundry can be a daunting task. To make things easier, we've made a checklist of things to measure, so that you can be rest assured that you're not forgetting anything important.
Where To Record Your Measurements
We recommend drawing a simple diagram of your laundry room and noting all dimensions on the drawing. Having a visual reference will help you, your installer, and anyone else involved understand any limitations of the room, or things to keep in mind.
What To Measure
Note down on your grid paper the overall measurements of the entire room. Don't forget to allow for tiles if the walls haven't been tiled yet.
Measure the distance from the floor to the ceiling. This will be useful when you're planning your laundry layout, especially if you want to use tall pantry cabinets or wall cabinets.
Check if the Floor is Level
Where are the highest and lowest points of the floor? Is it uneven, or pretty level? Take particular note of how level the floor is in the space where you will be putting your laundry cabinets.
Doors and Windows
Take down the size and location of all doors and windows. Don't forget to measure the distance they are from the floor and/or ceiling and the walls on either side. Also note how much space they need to open.
Waste and/or Pipe Positions
Do you have existing plumbing that you need to work around? Working with your plumbing (rather than moving it) can save you a lot of time and money during your renovation, as moving plumbing can often be a costly exercise.
Power Points and Light Fixtures
Add the location of all existing and future power points and light fixtures to your drawing. This is super handy for when you are planning where to put your appliances.
Any Other Room Features
Is there anything else in the room that could impact your laundry design? Think radiators, roof access points, odd shaped walls, etc.
The Size of your Washing Machine and Dryer
This one seems obvious, but it's always best to check how much room you need for these, as dimensions can vary greatly between models.
